ok baby stewart, we're ready for you.....we've got all the baby items...carseat, crib, changing table, etc...the apt is clean..even the cars are clean! We've got frozen meals in the freezer, we've got onsies and diapers and a bag packed for the hospital! I think we're all ready for you...please feel free to come....any day now...seriously...any day now.
unfortunately for us (ok for me because I'm sick of being pregnant) this baby has shown no signs of an impending arrival. At our dr' s appt on friday (39 week check up) the doctor looked at me and said, "no progress...see you in a week and if there's no change we'll talk about scheduling something" which means, it could be another two weeks before this baby shows up! Thankfully they won't let me go too much longer than a week over due, but when you've been pregnant for nine + months....a week can seem like a really long time!
Ok enough of my whining, things have actually been pretty good with us. Keeping busy with work and getting a few last minute things done. Plus the weather has been beautiful so we've been outside soaking up the sun (I think I even got a little burnt today!) I only have three more days of work left before my leave so I'm definitely looking forward to having some time off to spend with our little one and see more of my husband! (who knows maybe I'll even blog more)
We're also getting ready to have lots of visitors this summer/fall, starting with Ivan's parents who come on Saturday and ending with his brother and sister in law in Oct. I think over the next few months we have about 20 people coming to visit us, so we're looking forward to showing everybody the newest member of our family as well as the city we've gotten to know over the last year.

Sunshine and Stomach Flu
again I apologize for my lack of blogging, its just hard to find energy between work, prepping for baby and squeezing in quality time with Ivan. But here I am to update you all on our lives.
Things have pretty much been the same here, keeping busy with work and little by little getting everything ready for baby stewart. The weather has been absolutely beautiful (70's and sunny) the last few days so we've been spending as much time outside as possible. Yesterday we spent the afternoon with our neighbors, hanging out and grilling and just enjoying the sunshine and each others company.
Preparation for baby stewart has been ramping up lately. Almost all needed baby items have been purchased or ordered and I feel like I've finally started nesting! (yay) Everyone said that it would happen but I doubted. Not that I didn't want to get things done, I just didn't ever think I'd have the energy. But after Ivan left for work last night I decided to get a few things done....which turned into a four hour frenzy of cleaning and organization! There is still a lot to be done but I'm feeling much better about the cleanliness and state of our apt.
We've also been taking parenting classes at our hospital. Although not super informative (being a doctor's kid and a biology major not a lot surprises us) it has been nice to get to know the ins and outs of the hospital where our baby will be delivered. Knowing the lay of the land and the regular protocols will make us a little bit more comfortable when the time comes.
We had our second to last class today but unfortunately had to leave early, Ivan unexpectedly came down with a bad case of the stomach flu. He had been fine all day, but it hit him really hard as we were getting into class. After a few hurried runs to the bathroom we decided we should probably hit the road. Poor guy, throwing up, stomach cramps, fever and chills...he's got the whole kit and caboodle. I guess I shouldn't be surprised though, the little boys next door recently had the stomach flu as well as a few people from my work....I'm just hoping and praying that I'm spared from this plague (I've had enough puking during this pregnancy to last a lifetime!) Hopefully this is just a quick 24 hour bug and he'll be recovered soon, in the mean time I'm playing nurse to my poor husband, I finally feel like I'm making up for all the time he spent caring for me during my months of morning sickness.
Well, sorry this is a short one but I should really go and check on my sickie and well as throw in another load of laundry....hope everyone is well....will try and post again soon!

Hiccups
Hiccups - "sudden, involuntary contractions of the diaphragm muscle"
Ivan came home this morning with a nasty bout of them....which wouldn't be such a big deal, except that when he gets them, he gets them for days...thats right..days. I get annoyed with hiccups after 10 minutes, I can't imagine having them for more than twenty four hours! Although Ivan hasn't had an "episode" in over a year the last time he had them it was for three days. It usually ends pretty badly, with him hunched over the toilet, throwing up because of all the stomach acid he's urped up.
He's usually a pretty good sport about it though, allowing himself to be my guinea pig as I scour the internet for home remedies. To date though, we have not found a cure, they last through all "treatments", meals, sleeping and all activities and I mean all.
It was pretty amusing though this morning, Ivan crawled into bed hiccuping away, and about 30 seconds later baby stewart got a bad case of sympathy hiccups. So I laid there sandwiched between two twitching bodies. We saw baby stewart have the hiccups at our 20 week ultrasound and since then have hoped that the poor thing doesn't end up like Ivan :)
In other baby news, things are going very well. We just had our 34 wk (6 more weeks can you believe it? eek!) appt and everything looks good. The doctor said that baby stewart is probably just under 5 lbs and at the moment is head down. We'll be attending our second childbirth prep/parenting class tomorrow night and our apt seems to have exploded with baby items. (who knew babies needed all this stuff?). I'm getting pretty anxious to get this baby out, with each week I feel more and more uncomfortable, Ivan on the other hand had decided he likes the baby where it is at the moment cause its not costing him anything while its in the womb :) So hopefully I'll be blessed with a little more patience for the next few weeks.

It's Official....
....I'm a terrible blogger, its been almost two months since my last post...I fail! I was so excited too, when I first started blogging, thinking about things during my day that I would blog about. But life just gets too busy and sometimes after you live through your day the last thing you want to do is rehash it on the internet. But in this blog, I will attempt to update you on the last two months of our lives...perhaps bullet points would work best
-Our trip to WI in January was amazing! we spent just a few whirlwind days visiting friends and family but it was so good to see everyone. We managed to sneak in visits with our good friends Em and Jon, Mark and Brit and Melissa. We saw lots of new babies and spent some good quality time with my family celebrating our belated christmas.
-After returning to PA life got really busy (hence the lack of blogging). Ivan was sent to training for work in Charlotte for three weeks. Thankfully he was able to come home on the weekends but it made for a really long week. However any training is really good for his job and we were just grateful that they sent him before the baby comes!
-We've had the snowiest winter ever here in Philadelphia, it just keeps coming. All in all not too much more snow that we're used to, just a less prepared city. My company was even closed for a day and a half.. my first adult snow day!
-I've actually been to WI twice since my last blog. Last weekend I flew in for an ultra quick visit during which my mom and sisters threw me a baby shower. I felt so blessed! I had friends come in from MI and MN, as well as many other friends and family members. It was so great having all those important people in the same room. Baby stewart is definitely going to be well loved!
-Ivan and I decided now that we're down to counting weeks instead of months before the baby is born that we should finally start getting things ready. We finally switched over our bedrooms and ordered the baby furniture. Things are definitely starting to sink in now that there is a crib and changing table set up in our apt! This weekend we also start our parenting classes at the hospital.....its the beginning of the end...only 7 weeks left!!
well thats all for now, I'll leave you with one of my favorite pictures from our trip to WI in january...Ivan and my brother Peter who decided just sitting in the hot tub wasn't exciting enough when all that snow was outside :)

A year of Changes
We've made alot of changes this year...new state, new jobs, new apt, new church and a future new addition to our family. It hasn't all been easy and we're still adjusting to some of those changes but we look forward to this year and the changes that 2010 will bring to our lives!
Today we went downtown Philadelphia and had a wander, despite being here for almost 8 months Ivan has never really made it downtown. So we took advantage of the nice ish weather and headed out for a walk. Unbeknownst to us there is a massive parade here in philly every new years day. The "Mummers Parade" is apparently a philly tradition in which hundreds of performers brave the cold and dress in elaborate costumes to put on a parade. To us the parade seemed like a good excuse for people to crowd the streets and drink beer out of plastic cups, but despite getting silly string and glitter in our hair a few times it was an excellent opportunity to people watch! Here are a few pictures of our afternoon....
